Trip to Stehekin
Moms had other plans for the weekend so Web and I decided to take our kids up to Stehekin, a neat little community and entry to the North Cascades at the far end of Lake Chelan. We took our fishing poles, snorkeling gear, backpacking gear, and three days worth of food for an adventure along the river with kids.
After a long boat ride of a couple hours up Lake Chelan, the end of the lake came into view along with the community of Stehekin which is a gateway to North Cascades National Park.
From the ferry $5 gets you a ride on the NPS bus for the ride up the valley.
The view from High Bridge, with the Stehekin River flowing below (future destination for a whitewater trip), which is the end of the line for the bus and the entry into the National Park (location).
Web with the jog stroller, snorkeling gear, and all the camping gear for himself and his two kids.
Aki in pursuit of rainbow trout upstream of Tumwater Campsite.
Baking pizzas for dinner with a fire below and above the grate making the perfect pizza oven.
Up before breakfast the next morning Web gives Alder and Aki some pointers on catching rainbow trout.
Aki with his first fish of the trip--an 8" rainbow trout.
Breakfast at Tumwater Campsite.
The next day we continued up past the end of the road at Car Wash Falls (location).
Web pushing the jog stroller to its limits. The road was constructed in the channel migration zone and the river has washed out the road in several places. Where the road corridor still exists nearly all the road bed has washed away making for a rugged trail.
Looking for fish. Web and I took turns with the wetsuit exploring the river and learning more about the fish habitat.
We had a weekend of absolutely great fishing with consistent action for rainbow trout.
Aki working a nice pool for some rainbow trout. I am sure we'll be back for another trip.
